On my quest to find out what it is exactly that inspires Kane - I've stumbled upon some articles that are floating about on the internet (mainly on thefashionspot)
It's fortunate for Christopher Kane that he is inspired by strong, powerful women. Since the young designer was unleashed upon the fashion world last month, they've been descending en masse with Donatella Versace heading the charge. Kane's graduate collection from the prestigious Central St Martins MA Fashion course caught the magpie eye of Ms V, thanks to his ingenious reworking of Gianni Versace's Nineties heyday for a collection comprising ultra-tight, ultra-short, stretched lace creations embroidered with crystal mesh and chain links. He's been in negotiations with her ever since (having jetted to Milan to attend both her show and her after-party during Milan Fashion Week), and a Kane-Versace collaboration is imminent. The young designer plans to launch his own collection during London Fashion Week in September with the support of the Italian mega-brand, which will supply fabrics and materials. "I'm delighted to be associated with the legacy of the house, and it would be a dream come true to eventually work full time for Donatella," reveals Kane. "But we both agree that initially I should concentrate on building my own name. Working with her will without doubt make me a stronger designer and give me a competitive advantage." Anna Wintour, the imperious editor-in-chief of American Vogue, was hot on Donatella's stiletto heels, whisking the plucky Glaswegian off for a summit meeting just hours after his college catwalk debut, which won him the Harrods Award for Best Designer. As fashion fairy godmothers go, it's not a bad duo. "To have such support at this stage in my career is amazing. They have given me such encouragement and are both very inspiring," says the 23-year-old. Expect glamour-a-go-go as Kane gets set to establish his particular brand of sex, sophistication and sequins as a must-see on London's schedule, with the backing of either the New Generation or Fashion East initiatives. "My work is quite youthful and edgy. My ambition is to create a London show of a standard on a par with Paris." (March 29 2006, AM)

LONDON's most exciting new fashion name, Christopher Kane, blinded onlookers with his talent last week when he joined the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier, Hussein Chalayan and Shaun Leane for Alexander McQueen in contributing to Swarovski's Runway Rocks Tokyo show. The 23-year-old designer, who shot to fame in February with a Versace-inspired graduate collection for Central Saint Martins that put him on a fast track to the offices of both Donatella Versace and Anna Wintour, created an eye-popping 'harness' out of Swarovski crystal mesh. Entitled 'Addicted to Mesh', the piece was inspired by obscure Picasso sketches and the construction of chandeliers, he said. Over 30 leading fashion figures have created one-off pieces for this year's Runway Rocks show. (July 25 2006, AM)
